Avoid Overeating Halloween Sweets

Halloween is one of those holidays that taunt us with devilish and delicious treats. But don’t be tricked into over doing it. Those ghoulish goodies can turn you into the Great Pumpkin if you’re not careful. Here are a few tricks of your own that can keep you from overdoing it on Halloween.

Put off buying Halloween goodies until a day before Halloween. Having treats around the house for an extended amount of time is just asking for disaster. Waiting until the day before will reduce this temptation. Don’t wait until the actual day of Halloween though either. You may find yourself passing out apples and grapes because the candy has been picked over. Make sure you buy the day before!

Avoid buying your favorites. If you are a sucker for snicker bars don’t buy them. If you can’t resist caramel cubes, then leave them off of our list. Buy things that aren’t calling your name every time you look at them.

Stick with bite sized treats. There are a variety of candies and chocolates that come in fun and bite sizes. If you just can’t resist temptation, then eating one or two of the bite size may do the trick. Buying full size candy bars may get you kudos from the neighborhood kids, but your gut will pay for it later.

Stock up on tootsie rolls, suckers, smarties and twizzlers. These are low /no fat items that are bite size. Other types of candy such as chocolate bars pack a lot of fat.

Finally, get rid of the candy once Halloween is over. Do not keep the treats around. When trick-or-treaters are coming less often, put the rest of the candy in a bowl by the front door. This is a sure fire way to get rid of your candy!
