Fight the Funk

Prevent Yourself from Getting into a Workout Funk

When doing cardio (especially when you are indoors) it is easy to get into a funk. Sometimes we robotically jump on the treadmill or elliptical and get into a show on the television and the next thing you know your workout is finished. During these funks, it is difficult to get the most from our workouts. In order to fight the funk, it is important to keep focused. Ensure you change your distance, or your stride, or your speed. By changing up the variables of your workout you will beat the boredom and focusing will ensure you are getting the most from your exercise routine.

Tips for indoor workouts:

Try sprinting during each increment of 3, 5, or 7 minutes. For beginners a sprint every 7 minutes, and then gradually move up.

If you are watching a show, do a 30 second sprint and a 30 second recovery during each commercial that airs.

Or if you are watching a show increase the resistance and/or incline during each commercial that airs.

If you are listening to music during your workout, change your workout every song.
For example:

1st song Warm Up
2nd song Sprint
3rd song Increase Resistance or Incline
(Repeat)
